Hello. Have you ever heard of a 3DTV? Well it’s the newest technology out there and I am here to tell you that it is definitely worth buying! Why? Because it lets you watch things in three dimensions. Are you a 3D movie lover or just enjoy something new to experience when you’re watching your television? Well then you should read on about why 3DTV is so amazing, and why you should go out and buy one.
First off let’s talk about the best things about 3DTV.
· Whatever you’re watching can be seen in 3D.
· It’s fun to show off a cool new movie in 3D when your friends come over.
· Some TV’s are the same amount of money as their older 2D versions.
· And if you get too tired of watching in 3D you can turn the effect off.
· Plus you don’t have to spend 10 dollars a person every time you want to see a 3D movie.
If those points seemed to have reeled you in then I am happy to tell you that you are now a little more than 50 percent on board with going out and getting a brand new 3D TV. Wondering about some of the points I just listed? Want to know a little more? Just go ahead and read on as I explain each of my points with a little more detail.
First, yes whatever you want to watch can be seen in 3D, these televisions include a 2D to 3D conversion option but not all of the 3DTV’s include this so make sure you know what you are buying.
Second, yes from what I have thoroughly researched and just have been interested in myself, watching in 3D at home is a better over-all experience and will definitely impress anyone. Unless they’re not really into watching television, then I just can’t help you.
Third, yes surprisingly I found that some of the Samsung and Panasonic 3DTV models are about the same price as their older 2D models. Making the trip of going out to your nearest electronic store and checking this one of a kind deal out would definitely be worth your time. Just once again be picky and make sure you read the labels and do a little research online so you can go out there and get the best price. Or maybe you won’t even have to get up, do some online shopping, and find some open box 3DTV and you will be set.
Fourth, yes the 3D effect can be turned off if you do not want to watch in 3D all the time. Many options are offered because no one wants to be stuck with an electronic device that only does one thing. Those days are in the past.
Fifth, if you were add up all the money you spend in the theaters, especially the 3D movies that are only available in theaters because you don’t have a 3DTV yet, I am sure it would amount to just around the price of a 3DTV. So maybe it’s worth the money to save up a little bit of money and have your 3D experience at home. What do you think?
The glasses
Yes you have to wear glasses. This is because the glasses are the second part of the whole three dimensional experience. Without the glasses you would be looking at your 3DTV and think it was broken because all you would see is a blurry picture. A 3D effect is done by using a “cooler” version of what look like sunglasses called “active liquid crystal shutter glasses.” Active shutter glasses work by very quickly blocking each eye in sequence (120 times per second systems like Panasonic's Full HD 3D). This blocking of each eye make it so that only certain colors reach your eye at different times, and when different colors are blocked together is when you would experience what we now call to be a 3D effect. In addition these glasses, contain electronics and batteries (typically good for 80 or more hours), that sync to the TV via an infrared or Bluetooth signal” (Katzmaier). Wow that’s crazy; this syncing with your television lets you see every part of the 3D experience because these glasses are adjusting to your eyes and how you are looking at the picture, and all at fractions of a second. So that means that instead of you having to sit in the theater with your sight blocked by someone who’s much taller than you or having to sit in front of that baby screaming in the background, you could be lounging back in your chair and having this 3D experience all to yourself. Hmmm…Well if I were you, I would pick to have your 3D experience at home.
The Cost
So now a little bit about the cost. The glasses right now will cost you around $150, which you are required to wear as you will not be able to see anything in 3D without them. As well, if you want to watch a movie in 3D you will also need a three dimensional Blu-ray Player, the cheapest one as of right now being “Sony’s BDP-S470 for $200.” Or if you are lucky enough to own Sony’s Playstation 3, you will able to update your firmware so that the Playstation can play 3D movies as well as games that you are probably already playing. (Release date of firmware is unknown).
Yeah, I know it can seem like a lot of equipment but you know what? It is the seamless integration of those devices that create this amazing experience that we are now able to view by just the push a button. Plus, come on, if you’re really into having the latest and greatest or are looking to buy a TV, these prices are not that bad when it comes to your entertainment. And anyway, you are going to have all this stuff for a while. And lastly, 3D in your home is a brand new technology, so, it’s not going anywhere soon. So why not embrace it now before it becomes outdated?!?!
Available Movies and Broadcasting Channels
As of right now your movie selection is limited as this technology is relatively new, but of course all the latest movies in the last month are available in 3D. As of now there is no 3D channels but “DIRECTV, is planning, to announce it will provide dedicated 3D channels to its customers, beginning in June 2010” (Lum). The first of the channels coming in will be ESPN and Discovery Channel who will be broadcasting their shows in true three dimensional formats. Meaning that, if you already have DIRECTV you have no worries besides buying the 3DTV. And plus if you are a big sports fan or love any of the shows on the Discovery Channel, then you know it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to get that 3DTV. Now would it? Final Thoughts
Should you really go out and spend that much money on a new TV? Of course, “industry analysts predict 1 million sets (will be) sold this year, 14 million next year and 40 million by 2014” (Catlin). This is a crazy amount especially when this technology in your own home is relatively new but very accessible. So like I said before just got out and buy that new 3DTV because they are readily available at most electronic stores including Best Buy or of course online.
In my opinion I think 3D television is a great and cool technology to show off especially if you not only love watching television like I do but also like to experience those 3D movies you saw in theaters in even better quality at home, of course, thanks to those nifty active shutter glasses I explained earlier. Plus it’s the comforts of home, how could your 3D experience get any better?
Still not convinced on buying a 3DTV well if I got any other reason left to convince you it would be this. If we can buy the latest three dimensional televisions we can help fuel even better creations in the near future. Meaning even a 4D experience? Who knows? I don’t. So go out and discover 3DTV for yourself and see what you think.
