3D at Home! A new dimension in TV technology.

Hello. Have you ever heard of a 3DTV? Well it’s the newest technology out there and I am here to tell you that it is definitely worth buying! Why? Because it lets you watch things in three dimensions. Are you a 3D movie lover or just enjoy something new to experience when you’re watching your television? Well then you should read on about why 3DTV is so amazing, and why you should go out and buy one.

First off let’s talk about the best things about 3DTV.

· Whatever you’re watching can be seen in 3D.

· It’s fun to show off a cool new movie in 3D when your friends come over.

· Some TV’s are the same amount of money as their older 2D versions.

· And if you get too tired of watching in 3D you can turn the effect off.

· Plus you don’t have to spend 10 dollars a person every time you want to see a 3D movie.

If those points seemed to have reeled you in then I am happy to tell you that you are now a little more than 50 percent on board with going out and getting a brand new 3D TV. Wondering about some of the points I just listed? Want to know a little more? Just go ahead and read on as I explain each of my points with a little more detail.

First, yes whatever you want to watch can be seen in 3D, these televisions include a 2D to 3D conversion option but not all of the 3DTV’s include this so make sure you know what you are buying.

Second, yes from what I have thoroughly researched and just have been interested in myself, watching in 3D at home is a better over-all experience and will definitely impress anyone. Unless they’re not really into watching television, then I just can’t help you.

Third, yes surprisingly I found that some of the Samsung and Panasonic 3DTV models are about the same price as their older 2D models. Making the trip of going out to your nearest electronic store and checking this one of a kind deal out would definitely be worth your time. Just once again be picky and make sure you read the labels and do a little research online so you can go out there and get the best price. Or maybe you won’t even have to get up, do some online shopping, and find some open box 3DTV and you will be set.

Fourth, yes the 3D effect can be turned off if you do not want to watch in 3D all the time. Many options are offered because no one wants to be stuck with an electronic device that only does one thing. Those days are in the past.

Fifth, if you were add up all the money you spend in the theaters, especially the 3D movies that are only available in theaters because you don’t have a 3DTV yet, I am sure it would amount to just around the price of a 3DTV. So maybe it’s worth the money to save up a little bit of money and have your 3D experience at home. What do you think?

The glasses

Yes you have to wear glasses. This is because the glasses are the second part of the whole three dimensional experience. Without the glasses you would be looking at your 3DTV and think it was broken because all you would see is a blurry picture. A 3D effect is done by using a “cooler” version of what look like sunglasses called “active liquid crystal shutter glasses.” Active shutter glasses work by very quickly blocking each eye in sequence (120 times per second systems like Panasonic's Full HD 3D). This blocking of each eye make it so that only certain colors reach your eye at different times, and when different colors are blocked together is when you would experience what we now call to be a 3D effect. In addition these glasses, contain electronics and batteries (typically good for 80 or more hours), that sync to the TV via an infrared or Bluetooth signal” (Katzmaier). Wow that’s crazy; this syncing with your television lets you see every part of the 3D experience because these glasses are adjusting to your eyes and how you are looking at the picture, and all at fractions of a second. So that means that instead of you having to sit in the theater with your sight blocked by someone who’s much taller than you or having to sit in front of that baby screaming in the background, you could be lounging back in your chair and having this 3D experience all to yourself. Hmmm…Well if I were you, I would pick to have your 3D experience at home.

The Cost

So now a little bit about the cost. The glasses right now will cost you around $150, which you are required to wear as you will not be able to see anything in 3D without them. As well, if you want to watch a movie in 3D you will also need a three dimensional Blu-ray Player, the cheapest one as of right now being “Sony’s BDP-S470 for $200.” Or if you are lucky enough to own Sony’s Playstation 3, you will able to update your firmware so that the Playstation can play 3D movies as well as games that you are probably already playing. (Release date of firmware is unknown).

Yeah, I know it can seem like a lot of equipment but you know what? It is the seamless integration of those devices that create this amazing experience that we are now able to view by just the push a button. Plus, come on, if you’re really into having the latest and greatest or are looking to buy a TV, these prices are not that bad when it comes to your entertainment. And anyway, you are going to have all this stuff for a while. And lastly, 3D in your home is a brand new technology, so, it’s not going anywhere soon. So why not embrace it now before it becomes outdated?!?!

Available Movies and Broadcasting Channels

As of right now your movie selection is limited as this technology is relatively new, but of course all the latest movies in the last month are available in 3D. As of now there is no 3D channels but “DIRECTV, is planning, to announce it will provide dedicated 3D channels to its customers, beginning in June 2010” (Lum). The first of the channels coming in will be ESPN and Discovery Channel who will be broadcasting their shows in true three dimensional formats. Meaning that, if you already have DIRECTV you have no worries besides buying the 3DTV. And plus if you are a big sports fan or love any of the shows on the Discovery Channel, then you know it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to get that 3DTV. Now would it? (If you’re still interested and wondering what movies are in 3D Click Here!

Final Thoughts

Should you really go out and spend that much money on a new TV? Of course, “industry analysts predict 1 million sets (will be) sold this year, 14 million next year and 40 million by 2014” (Catlin). This is a crazy amount especially when this technology in your own home is relatively new but very accessible. So like I said before just got out and buy that new 3DTV because they are readily available at most electronic stores including Best Buy or of course online.

In my opinion I think 3D television is a great and cool technology to show off especially if you not only love watching television like I do but also like to experience those 3D movies you saw in theaters in even better quality at home, of course, thanks to those nifty active shutter glasses I explained earlier. Plus it’s the comforts of home, how could your 3D experience get any better?

Still not convinced on buying a 3DTV well if I got any other reason left to convince you it would be this. If we can buy the latest three dimensional televisions we can help fuel even better creations in the near future. Meaning even a 4D experience? Who knows? I don’t. So go out and discover 3DTV for yourself and see what you think.

Why I Like To Write

I like to write because I can get my thoughts down on paper. My favorite things to write are lists because I like to know what I need to get done to transfer my agenda on paper can really help me keep things straight in my mind. I cannot, will not write a book. To sit down and compose every aspect of characters their setting and what they go through is just too crazy of a feat. Anyway I feel like everything that I could think about that would be a good story is already a book or a movie. So yeah..why bother? Ive used to write a lot, mostly poems but that hasn’t continued on since high school. I have too much going on and in college classes don’t drag on for very long like they did in high school so I have no time for dabbling down some poems.

I wanna become a musician and song writer. As my hobby really not as my job, but song writing is proving more difficult than I planned. Words sound good on a page but as I say them aloud and try to put a rhythm to what I’m saying it just doesn’t work out

In all why I write is to compose myself, thoughts, and feelings. From lists to trying to create a song I write to create order and sequence in my life one checklist, or note at a time

Outline

-The history of TV is that it has been around for a long time but the introduction of HD, higher resolution, and 3DTV a lot has changed
Thesis: I would buy a 3DTV because it’s an all around better viewing experience and I already spend a lot of time in front of the television.

• New technology brings clarity in picture
o Source 1, Quote 1

• 3D is leading to new technology besides TV, huge productions of non glasses television are being made for commercial use
o Source 3, Quote 1

• Glasses may seem stupid but their innovative and add to the whole viewing experience. Glasses wirelessly sync with the television to give you the perfect angles which is better than red and blue
o Source 1, Quote 4
o Source 2, Quote 1 (explains that glasses are better)

• OBJECTIONS

• Overwhelming picture : people usually do not receive headaches unless long exposure to television or pre existing condition
o Source 1, Quote 5 and 2

• Will I always have to watch in 3D?, that could be a pain
o Source 1, Quote 6 and 4

• They cost too much money!!!!
• And I hate the glasses: my thoughts are that I think 3DTV without the glasses is not fully developed and companies have run out of research money. If we buy the latest 3DTV we can help fuel even better creations in the near future so that we can get rid of those glasses

o Source 5, Quote 1

Teacher Note: I added quotes and one more source to my source paper but did not post it on the blog, and that is why some numbers may not correspond with my previous post.

Random

While shopping at best buy today I saw a 3D TV and it looked amazing already, I did not see the full viewing experience as I did not see any glasses. They are quite impressive looking and about an inch thick. I already knew this but worth including that in order to watch movies on a 3D TV you need a 3D blu-ray player, also to mention blu-ray is spelled without the “E”, and you also need to purchase blu-ray 3D movies. Not usually cheap but blu-ray players are becoming more affordable now and Sony will release an update for the PS3 that will let you instantly let you enjoy a 3D experience without having to buy a 3D blu-ray player, as the Sony Playstation is the only game console that will play blu-ray movies.

Intro and Conclusion

-Intro-
The introduction of 3D television is a big leap forward in flat panel HDTV’S in creating a whole new experience for the viewer. As I go on I will show you that watching in three dimensions instead of two is worth buying a new television, and creating that one of a kind eye popping picture

-Conclusion-
Adopting and embracing the new technology of a 3D television is well worth it as you will enjoy the utmost quality of television also it is very enjoyable to show off to your friends or the enjoy a great movie beyond anything seen before. That is why your next TV should be a 3D one.

The 3D hype of avatar started news and interest in 3D Televisions and this article attempts to answer all the questions you might be asking

1. “Most people are familiar with the old anaglyph method, where a pair of glasses with lenses tinted red and cyan (or other colors) is used to combine two false-color images. The result seen by the viewer is discolored and usually lower-resolution than the new method. The principal improvements afforded by new 3D TV technologies are full color and high resolution”

2. “Between 5 percent and 10 percent of Americans suffer from stereo blindness, according to the College of Optometrists in Vision Development”

A price comes at having a 3D television and without the glasses you can be quite puzzled at how you are going to watch the television in the first place.

1. “Golf seems a natural.”You have the field and it moves slowly," he says. Football and basketball are a little harder to adjust to (and hockey is toughest, with the glass and fans in the foreground and the players flat on the ice with the puck).”

2. “What's surprising is the pace of acceptance of 3D on TV with industry analysts predicting 1 million sets sold this year, 14 million next year and 40 million by 2014.”

You can have 3D television without the glasses but you can either pay 20,000 dollars or wait until they developed this new 3D technology a little further

1. “In general, most of the companies looking to enter the non-glasses 3D market are first approaching it from the retail and commercial perspective: screens that show advertising in public spaces, rather than in products designed for the home market”

2. “A prototype at Samsung’s booth. The 50-inch display has a very wide viewing angle, and I could see 3D cartoons no matter where I stood in front of it (again, no live action footage). The images on screen looked very similar to those on the TCL set. Personally, I don’t see a downside to a 3D world where bullets don’t look like they're two inches from your nose—those kinds of special effects are cheesy, anyway”

It’s a rush for companies to show off their broadcasting in sync with the brand name 3D TV’s out there so they can get their products out for people who want to be the first adopters

1. “DIRECTV, in partnership with Panasonic, is the first and only service provider to announce it will provide dedicated 3D channels to its customers, beginning in June 2010”

2. “Last month, Panasonic launched its VIERA 3D televisions in stores and quickly sold out of initial supplies. The VIERA 3D plasma display has native 1080p, 600 Hz capability and comes with liquid crystal glass shutter lens viewing glasses”

http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2006/08/71627

3D without the glasses can be achieved by using different tricks of projecting the image at different angles but sometimes not that great and 2D images are hard to achieve

1. “But where old-fashioned 3-D movies rely on the special glasses to block images meant for the other eye, Philips' WOWvx technology places tiny lenses over each of the millions of red, green and blue sub pixels that make up an LCD or plasma screen. The lenses cause each sub pixel to project light at one of nine angles fanning out in front of the display.”

2. “One nearly ready-made source of content is modern video games, which actually generate three-dimensional objects internally, then flatten the images into 2-D representations for standard monitors. Philips has developed hardware and software that can extract the original depth information from the game engine and use it to create 3-D images on a WOWvx display.”
